Operations Department
This team is split into two departments: Customer Services and Operations Support. Customer Services provides support to registrants, members and registrars. Operations Support serves the Customer Services team. For registrars and members of Nominet, Customer Services support includes technical support for registering PGP keys and using the Automaton. Customer Services also processes applications for the Public Register Search Service, Domain Availability Checker, WHOIS2 services, membership and TAG, as well as managing credit accounts and holding regular Registrar Information Days.
Customer Services
The range of support provided by customer services is broad and varies according to needs.
For registrants (holders of .uk domain names) it includes support on all registration aspects of.uk domain names such as transfers, renewals, cancellations and the updating of contact information.
Registrar Relations
The Registrar Relations Department provides support for our registrars, ensuring they are kept up-to-date with any developments in our services or the market. They listen to registrar needs and help ensure we are deliveriong appropriate services to our registrar community.
Technical Department
The Technical Department is responsible for all of our computer and network hardware and software and ensures all our systems run smoothly. It ensures we operate robust systems and delivers the high levels of secure service that our customers trust and rely on. The Department develops key security protocols and represents Nominet on internet technology committees within other international organisations such as ICANN and at global conferences. The Department is highly skilled and drives research and development within the company focusing on new product development.
Policy and Governance
Our Policy and Governance Department has two key focal points; international and national policy. On the international stage, the Department is active in many areas, sharing best practice and promoting dialogue in a range of forums including the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), World Wide Web Consortium (W3C, we are the UK and Ireland office for W3C), and the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF) among others. The Department’s national focus helps to drive internet policy decision in the UK and involves engagement with a variety of organisations ranging from government departments to other public organisations such as Trading Standards and the UK Internet Governance Forum.
Legal Department
The Legal Department is responsible for administering Nominet's award-winning Dispute Resolution Service (DRS), provides legal advice for all of our teams and is responsible for the drafting of contracts such as our Terms and Conditions and Registrar Agreement. The department also deals with policy development, insurance and risk.
Marketing and Communications Department
Marketing & Communications manages our engagement with both internal and external audiences. This involves using a complete range of both on and offline communication channels and events to inform and update our own people, members, sales channel, customers, and other key stakeholders. Another important role is developing clear brand identities and campaigns to raise awareness and support sales of our products. The Department also sets out our public purpose messaging and guides communication of our position in policy and governance debates.
Business Development
Our Business Development team helps us grow and ensures we remain at the top of our game in what is a fast-moving and dynamic industry. The team also helps us provide high quality support for customers in new areas of our business.
Finance Department
The Finance Department is responsible for Financial Management, Planning and Control, Business Analysis and the evaluation of Business Development Opportunities. The team performs treasury functions, liaises with external Investment Managers, protects Nominet's core assets and oversees the performance of our Investment portfolio. The Department works with external auditors, bankers and tax compliance professionals as well as providing financial management, reporting and financial process support to the Nominet Trust.
