Our structure reflects the fact that as a private, public purpose company, we have members rather than shareholders. Any organisation with an interest in the internet can become a member by paying a subscription fee. Members have voting rights and may enjoy access to privileges such as reduced domain name registration and renewal fees.
Our members contribute to the running of the company by:
- voting at Annual General Meetings
- electing non-executive Directors to the Board
- participating in discussion groups and sharing views on how Nominet should operate
Nominet Board
Up to three executives, three appointed non-executive directors and four elected non-executive directors sit on our Board. Of the four elected non-executive directors, two (or one if there are less than three in office) periodically stand down and are subject to re-appointment by election of the Members.
Policy process
Our policy processes allow stakeholders to play a central role and focus on issues that are important to them through specially convened Issue Groups. We aim to make the Issue Groups well-balanced so that they are able provide a range of views, expertise and recommendations to the Nominet Board.
