Use the lock command to disable a .uk domain name and the unlock command to restore a locked domain name.  There are two procedures you can use to lock a domain name with the Web Domain Manager.  There is a separate unlock command for each lock procedure.

Acceptable Use Limit: You will be blocked from this command if you attempt to lock more than 5% of your current registrations for illegal activity.  For full details, please read our acceptable use policy.


Locking a domain name for illegal activity

Use the investigation lock to remove a domain name from the .uk zone and prevent the registrant making changes via Nominet's Online Services.  Please read our investigation lock policy for further instructions on how this command may be used.
  1. In the domains section on the start page, click Go. This will load the domain list.
  2. In the domain list, click on the domain name you wish to lock.
  3. In the domain name view, click Lock Domain (Phishing).
  4. Make sure you have read and understand the policies on using this command and click I have understood the implications of locking domain names and wish to proceed.
  5. Verify that the correct domain names is selected, then click Lock Domain to lock the domain name.

Additional

  • Domain names that are locked using this procedure will be cancelled after 90 days.
  • Any misuse of this lock could result in your tag being suspended.


Locking a domain name for WHOIS opt-out abuse

Use the opt-out lock to prevent domain names from being improperly opted out of the WHOIS.  This locks the 'opt-out' field.  Please read our WHOIS opt-out rules for information on when a domain name can be opted-out of Nominet's WHOIS.
  1. In the domains section on the start page, click Go. This will load the domain list.
  2. In the domain list, click on the domain name you wish to lock.
  3. In the domain name view, click on the Account Name.
  4. In the account view, click Lock Account (WHOIS opt-out).
  5. Make sure you have read and understand the policies on using this command and click I have understood the implications of locking accounts and wish to proceed.
  6. Verify that the correct account is selected, then click Lock Account to lock the account.


Unlocking a domain name locked for illegal activity

  1. In the domains section on the start page, click Go. This will load the domain list.
  2. In the domain list, click on the domain name you wish to unlock.
  3. In the domain name view, click Unlock Domain (Phishing).
  4. Make sure you have read and understand the policies on using this command and click I have understood the implications of unlocking domain names and wish to proceed.
  5. Verify that the correct domain name is selected, then click Unlock Domain to unlock the domain name.


Unlocking a domain name locked for WHOIS opt-out abuse

  1. In the domains section on the start page, click Go. This will load the domain list.
  2. In the domain list, click on the domain name you wish to unlock.
  3. In the domain name view, click on the Account Name.
  4. In the account view, click Unlock Account (WHOIS opt-out).
