Online service account holders can opt to make use of an extra layer of security when logging into their account. Your log in requires your username (email address) and a password. When you first log in, you will have the option of switching on enhanced security.

This will require an additional passphrase to be set. Once the passphrase is set, users will be asked for 3 random characters (as well as their username and password) in order to log into their account.

Please see our FAQ for more information about your passphrase.

Strong passwords and passphrases are important protections to help you have safer online transactions. The key factors affecting password security are length and complexity.  A good password or passphrase is long and has letters and numbers
  • Don’t include dictionary words (e.g. flowers)
  • Do include numbers (e.g. f1ow3rs123)
  • Never write down your login details
  • Never disclose your login details to others
  • If you set a passphrase, make sure it is different to your password
  • Set security questions, otherwise you may be charged to re-establish your identity if you forget your passphrase
  • Login details apply to all Nominet accounts with your email
