• Requesting a domain that already exists will count towards the limit set for abuse detection.  Full details of the limits and how they affect you are given in our acceptable use policy.

Instructions

• Send an e-mail to the appropriate address.
• Use a subject line of TAG REQUEST (replace TAG with your tag name in capital letters)
• Include the fields as specified in the template below.

Operation template

Domains must be created either on an existing account (by specifying the account id) or on a new registrant account (by giving the registrant details).

Notes

1. Requests for .co.uk, .me.uk, .org.uk are processed automatically.
2. Requests for .net.uk, .ltd.uk, .plc.uk are manually verified before processing.
3. The REQUEST operation cannot be used for names in .sch.uk.
4. An explanation of the fields and their usage is given in the field definitions page.
5. The 'dns-id' fields link the domain name to the specified nameserver objects.
   
6. The effect of 'dns' fields depends on your configuration options: If your nameserver consolidation option is set to 'Off', the Automaton will create a new nameserver object and link it to the domain. If your nameserver consolidation option is set to 'On', the Automaton will first attempt to link the domain to an existing nameserver with the same dns name, creating a new nameserver if none is found.
7. All contact details given as part of a REQUEST on a new account will be used to create new contact objects. New contact data must be given for the mandatory contact a1, and can additionally be given for the optional contacts.
8. When requesting a domain on an existing account it is not possible to modify or create contacts on that account in the same request; this will result in a V148 error message.
9. The account on which the domain is to be created must be specified; this can either be the id of an existing account or the data required to create a new account.
10. From 9 Sep 2008, it will be possible to register multiple domain names on a single account by repeating the key field.

Errors

After processing your operation the Automaton produces and sends an automated reply. If there is a problem with the operation then two different error conditions may occur

• non-fatal errors (warning messages) may be appended to successful replies.
• fatal errors that prevents the operation from being carried out and so an error reply is generated.
