You can use the
lock account operation to prevent all the domain names on an account from resolving and
prevents operations from affecting those domain names. We recommend that you read about our
object based data structure which will explain how
lock account differs from the standard
domain lock.
When you use the
lock account operation, be aware of the following:
-
Use of this operation is governed by our
anti-abuse guidelines. Make sure you are familiar with these guidelines before locking an account.
-
The domain names associated with the locked account will no longer resolve. The nameservers are removed from the zone file.
- The WHOIS, Time Delay DAC and PRSS will display a suspended registration status for all domain names associated with the locked account.
-
Nominet's systems for registrars and registrants will prevent the following changes from occurring to all the domain names associated with the locked account:
- The domain, account, contact and nameserver details held by Nominet cannot be modified. This prevents the details displayed in the WHOIS from changing.
- The domain names cannot be renewed. Any information in the 'auto-bill:' and 'next-bill:' fields will be ignored.
- The domain names cannot be deleted or surrendered. The domain names associated to the locked account will be cancelled by Nominet 90 days after expiry in the normal way.
- The domain names cannot be moved to another Tag.
- The domain names cannot be moved to another account. This prevents merging, forking and registrant transfers.
- New domain names cannot be created on the locked account.
- Existing domain names cannot be moved onto the locked account.
How to lock an account:
- Create a new email message to applications@nic.uk
- Use the subject TAG Account Lock (replace TAG with your tag name in capital letters).
- Use the following template in your email message:
operation: lock
account-id:
lock-type: investigation
Notes:
- It is mandatory to include values for all the fields in this template. For more information on template fields, see our field definitions.
- To lock more than one account, you can repeat the account-id: field separated by a blank line up to 100 times.
- PGP sign and send the email.
You will receive
confirmation from the Automaton if the operation is successful. In addition, a notification email will be sent to the registrant of the domain name.
You will receive an
error from the Automation if the operation is unsuccessful. For help identifying and resolving an unsuccessful operation, see our
error messages page.
