• Automaton
  The automaton is our email-based system for registering and manipulating domain names on the .uk register.  Commands are sent to the automaton by PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) signed email.
  
• Extensible Provisioning Protocol  (EPP)
  EPP is an alternative system for registering domain names that uses XML over a an SSL secure connection to our server.
• Web domain manager
  Web domain manager is a browser based online interface for registrars. It can be used to register and manage domain names as well as customer accounts and data.

As well as systems for managing domain names we provide a system for account management.

• Online Service
  Online Service is our web based account management system for members, registrars and registrants. It allows account holders to manage the services that they subscribe to such as credit accounts, registrar service, PRSS, DAC. For registrants it provides access to functions including registrar change, cancellation and registration certificates.

Additionally, our database structure is the key element in system integration and development.

• Database structure
  Our data structure and management of the .uk registry underpin all of our activities. It is essential infrastructure for providing modern and professionally managed systems.

Registrar systems functionality

Our three systems for interacting with the core .uk registry data are EPP, the automaton and the web domain manager. Each of these three system have their own key strengths in terms of speed and functionality. Registrars can use any or all of these three systems to register and manage domain names. The table below highlights differences in system functionality and gives an outline of functionality currently in development.
