These instructions should help you to complete the direct domain name application form.

This form is for direct registrations only and is NOT to be used by Nominet registrars who can register domain names via our automated system. 

This application form can be used for registering domain names ending in co.uk, org.uk, ltd.uk, plc.uk, me.uk and net.uk. For registrations in any other Second Level Domains, please contact the registrant services department in the first instance by telephoning 01865 332244.

If you wish to register a domain name direct you must pay for it in advance by credit card only. Once we have received payment for the name, it will take up to three working days to register the name.

The following instructions refer to the relevant section of the application form:

Step 1 - Accept Terms

If you want to register a .uk domain name directly with us, please read and agree to the terms and conditions of domain name registration

Step 2 - Select Domain Name

The total length of the domain name (including suffixes such as co.uk) should be no more than 63 characters. The only characters allowed in a domain name are lowercase letters, digits and '-' (the hyphen character). A domain name CANNOT begin or end with a '-'. Step 3 - Add Name servers

You should only list name servers if you have the permission from the owners to do so. Listing name servers without the explicit approval of the owners is not only unethical, but can cause operational problems for the name servers listed.

The servers should be active and respond to Domain Name System (DNS) queries for the domain before this application is submitted. Most Internet Service Providers can provide one or more name servers if you do not have your own.

For the domain name to function at the point of registration you should supply at least one name server. You can continue without adding any nameservers but your domain name will not function.

Step 4 - Create an account

You now need to create an account with us. Your account will allow you to manage your domain name and nameservers, pay bills, and perform other administrative tasks.

Step 5 - Payment

To register a .uk domain name directly with us will cost £92.00 including VAT. We do not offer any hosting, email, or web site services.

We strongly advise you to register a .uk domain name through a registrar especially if you want the domain name to be registered immediately. A registrar will be able to provide you with any hosting, email, web site services and may be able to offer you a much lower registration cost.

Step 6 - Registration Complete
