The Top Level Domain (TLD) part of the domain name appears right at the end of the domain name, such as bbc.co.uk. Most geographical territories have been allocated a specific two-letter code, like .uk, which is called a country code Top Level Domain. There are also several TLDs that are not specific to a geographical location - these are known as generic Top Level Domains such as .com.
Organisations usually select a Top Level Domain that corresponds to the country in which they are operating, and some companies choose to register domain names in several different TLDs. In general, businesses based in or wishing to market themselves in the UK use a domain name ending .uk.
Nominet UK only deals with domain name registrations made in the .uk Top Level Domain (TLD). A reputable Registrar or Internet Service Provider should be able to give advice on registering domain names in other TLDs.
