There are a variety of changes that can be made to the legal registrant's details that do not incur a charge. By logging into your Online Services account you can submit these changes.

More information about Online Services.

Please note that these guidelines were reviewed and revised in June 2004.

General mistake to current registrant name

This covers spelling mistakes and minor alterations.  It includes altering an incorrect word and adding Ltd/Plc to the company name if this was originally missing.  It also applies where a non-existent registrant name is listed, and it needs to be changed to an existing name.  We request the completion of a declaration before any such changes are made.

Change of company name

The name of the company changes, but the registered company number remains the same.  This can also apply when, for example, a Building Society turns into another form (such as a Ltd/Plc) and the underlying entity remains the same, even though it may have gained a new company number.

Marriage (changed name)

You need to send us a copy of the marriage certificate so we can verify the change.

Change of name

Applies to domain names registered for individuals and sole traders (could be individuals within partnerships as well).   You need to send us a copy of deed poll documentation to verify this, or a solicitor's letter to confirm the changes.

Sole trader to individual

The sole trader would need to send Nominet a letter confirming that the company is no longer trading.

Adding, removing or changing a trading name or firm's name

This applies to domain names registered for sole traders, partnerships, firms or individuals only.   If you explain the error/change to the trading name in writing on your business headed paper, or if you provide information on a reply form and  explain the situation to us, we will update the register.

Limited Company to Charity

If the domain name is registered to the Limited Company and they want to transfer it to their charity (so it is registered to the same people) there is no charge.

Removing a joint individual (non-trading)

This is treated as a surrender of rights from one party to another rather than as a transfer of entity.  We would need to receive a letter signed by both parties.

Joint individual(s) adding a trading name

If all individuals listed are partners then they need to send us a letter to confirm.

Clubs and Societies

If a society or club official's name (eg chairman, secretary, treasurer), is in the 'for' field, the club/society name can be added.   An official's name can be added to the organisation name, or the official's name can be changed.  Additions and changes need to be authorised using the official headed paper of the organisation.  The society or club will also need to complete the second half of the transfer form.

Other cases

If the change you are requesting is not listed please email in the first instance and we will clarify whether or not the change you are requesting will include a charge.
