What is the Registrants Online system?
The system is an interactive web-based form that allows you to update the details associated with your domain name registration at any time. It also allows you to print off a domain name registration certificate.
Why have you stopped sending out paper certificates and reply forms?
The Registrants Online system has replaced paper registration certificates and reply forms in order to make it quicker and easier for you to confirm your registration details directly with Nominet.
Anyone who registered or renewed their domain name after 1 August 2003 will be able to update their registration details using the Registrants Online system.
How can I access Registrants Online?
If you registered or renewed your domain name after 1 August 2003, you will be sent a letter from Nominet that states your domain name and a corresponding security code. The letter includes a link which takes you to the page on our website where you will be asked to type in the domain name and security code in order to enter the Registrants Online system.
What do I do once I'm in the system?
Once you have accessed the Registrants Online system, the initial screen will show you the information Nominet currently holds for your domain name registration. You will be able to confirm or update these details and print off a copy of a registration certificate for your domain name.
What details will the system show?
The system will show the record that we hold for that domain name including, where we have been given the data, the Registrant name, contact information - postal address, fax, phone, email address, registrant type - and registered company number, sole trader/partners names etc, where appropriate.
Why do I need to update my details?
It is important that the contact details that we hold for you are up-to-date. There are two ways that you can update them. If you registered your domain name through a registrar they can make these changes for you. Alternatively, you can use the Registrants Online system.
Maintaining accurate details enables us to verify who you are if you request a subsequent change to your domain name, or if we need to contact you (e.g. for domain name renewals).
What will be done with the information that I provide?
The data will be used to update Nominet's register database and a copy will be passed onto your registrar. We do not sell this information for marketing or commercial purposes. Further information on our use of the data can be seen at section 6 of our terms and conditions.
What changes can I make to the information displayed?
You can confirm that the information shown is correct, or you can request to change any of the information that is incorrect. You can also add new information if it is currently missing. However, if you request changes to the registrant's name, Nominet will have to investigate these changes before accepting your request.
What happens if I request a change to the registrant's name?
If you have requested a change to the registrant's name, you will be informed that your request is being investigated and verified by Nominet staff. You may be contacted in the process.
All other changes will be updated automatically without further checks. If you want to change the registrant name to a different person or legal entity then you will need to request a registrant transfer. There is a separate process for dealing with registrant transfers that involves the payment of a fee.
When can I download my certificate?
You can download your certificate at any time after you have submitted your details to Nominet. You can print off as many copies of the certificate as you wish.
However, if you have requested a change to the registrant's name, the certificate will still show the registrant's name as it appears in the register database at that time. After Nominet has investigated and updated the register database, you will be notified of this by email. You will then be able to re-enter the website and print off an updated copy of your certificate.
What happens if I lose my certificate?
If you lose the copy of the certificate you printed off, you can use the security code to go back to the website and print off a replacement copy.
What happens if I want to change my details again later on?
It is vital that you keep your contact details up to date.
The security code will continue to work with the domain name throughout the registration period, so you can re-enter and make additional changes at any time.
