What is a registrar?

To register a domain name you will have used a registrar, this may have been your Internet Service Provider (ISP). As well as registering domain names your registrar may also provide web site hosting and email services associated to your domain name.

Your registrar is your key point of contact for all issues relating to your domain name.

When you registered your domain name through a registrar they may have set up an online account for you. You should use this account to manage all aspects of your domain name registration including renewal.

If you do not know these details then your first port of call should be your registrar's web site. That should give details of how to access your account, send you a log in or password reminder or provide email or telephone support.

What if you don’t know who your registrar is?

If you do not know who your registrar is then you can use our WHOIS lookup service to find out the details related to any domain name.

Enter the details of the domain name in the WHOIS lookup box on the right hand side of this page. The result should show the details of the registrant (you or your company) and the details of the registrar.

If your details are shown incorrectly visit our change details section for more information.

Once you have discovered who your registrar is, search for them using a suitable search engine and re-establish contact with them through their customer support services or web site log in. From there you should be able to update your details and renew your domain name.

What if the name of the registrar is not who you expected it to be?

This could be because you registered your name through a reseller. A reseller is a company that has a trading arrangement with a registrar to register domain names on their behalf. So even though you registered your domain name through the reseller the details shown against your domain name are for the actual registrar.

This is not unusual and there are many resellers operating in the domain name industry providing excellent services to their customers. Unfortunately, we will only hold details of the final registrar, not of any reseller that you have used. If you cannot remember or get in touch with the company with whom you originally registered the domain name then you should try and get in touch with the registrar listed against your domain name. They should be able to help with your enquiry.
