Read the domain expiry policy issue brief
- Initial stakeholders’ comments period closed on 2 March 2011.
- Following feedback from stakeholders and the Stakeholder Committee the Nominet Secretariat produced a revised issue brief to take into account issues relating to the expiry period, post expiry and the renewal of expired domain names more generally.
- Stakeholders were able to submit initial comments on the issue brief and register their interest in the issue group until 14 June 2011.
- The Secretariat reviewed all the responses and has constituted an issue group with the following members.
- The first meeting of the issue group will take place on 27 September 2011.
- The agenda for the meeting on 27 September 2011 was published. In addition, to help inform the issue group’s discussions, the following pieces of research were produced:
- Registrant survey on renewal experiences and expectations – produced ComRes
- Background statistics on .uk renewals – produced Nominet
- Background document - produced by Webb Henderson comprising:
- International review
- Summary of ICANN findings on post-expiration policy
- Summary of survey of registrar terms
- Summary of stakeholder responses to the issue brief(s)
- The discussion of the 27 September 2011 meeting focused around the slides produced by the Chair. A draft executive summary of the meeting has been published and circulated to stakeholders.
- A second meeting was held on 1 November 2011 and the discussion focused around the slides prepared by the Chair. A draft executive summary of the meeting has been published and circulated to stakeholders.
- A third meeting was held on the 6 December 2011 which focused on a discussion document drafted by the Secretariat. A draft executive summary approved by the Chair has been published and circulated to stakeholders.
- A set of draft recommendations and a draft framework for expiry were published and circulated to stakeholders. A summary of feedback to these draft documents and an annotated version of the draft recommendations have now been published.
- The issue group met on 29 February 2012 to discuss the summary of feedback to the draft recommendations and draft framework and to examine options to move the discussion forward. A draft executive summary of the meeting approved by the Chair has been published and circulated to stakeholders.
