A .uk Policy Stakeholder Committee has been set up to help the issue groups and to support and enable the policy process. Its members have been chosen to include expertise from across the domain name industry.  In addition, there is direct representation from Nominet.

The Role

The .uk Policy Stakeholder Committee will:
  • Provide independent advice on any abuse of the process or of an issue group;
  • Provide an independent point of contact for stakeholders;
  • Offer an independent view of the .uk policy process, including its coherence, inclusiveness and objectivity;
  • Have a key role in the new annual ".uk Policy Forum".

Key tasks

In carrying out this role, the .uk Policy Stakeholder Committee is expected to:
  • Provide advice on how to encourage stakeholder engagement in the policy process;
  • Provide a forum to discuss overlap between issue groups;
  • Provide advice to issue groups on particular concerns;
  • At the request of an issue group, help it identify and recruit relevant stakeholders;
  • Provide input to the development of the programme for the .uk Policy Forum and take a lead role in the conference;
  • The .uk Policy Stakeholder Committee will be invited to contribute to the annual review of the policy process.
The effectiveness of the committee will be assessed as part of the policy process. In addition the Board will review the structure and function of the committee after the first two years of operation.

Expertise

Members of the .uk Policy Stakeholder Committee bring a wide range of expertise and are able to:
  • Reach out to their community to ensure appropriate engagement in the issue groups,
  • Identify issues of importance to their community,
  • Identify individuals who can bring the experience and breadth of knowledge into discussions, and
  • Identify compelling speakers and panellists from their community who should be involved in the .uk Policy Forum.
Committee members will promote the work of the policy process at high profile events, chair or moderate panel discussions in the .uk Policy Forum and provide specialist input on a range of issues.
