Background
In line with our mission, we seek input into policy matter from a broad range of stakeholders. This is balanced against the operational need to develop policy and implement it in a reasonable timeframe.
Our policy development process (PDP) was reviewed in 2006. At the
May 2006 meeting of the
Policy Advisory Body (PAB) a new process was put to the PAB by the Board and was adopted shortly afterwards.
We believe that the revised process will see policy developed in a timely manner, benefitting from stakeholder input.
The process
There are three main routes through the process, representing a short, medium and longer version.
The
short version will apply when a policy matter is simply debated at the PAB and Board with no consultation, working group or other activity. It is estimated to take around 3 months.
The
medium version will apply when the PAB decide to have a Working Group or subcommittee on the topic, and this process will take approximately 4 to 6 months.
The
longer version will apply when there is a public consultation. This will usually take 6 to 7 months to run.
A summary of how all the versions fit together is
also available.
Other changes
- All consultations will be Nominet led
- PAB papers will be published 7 days before PAB meetings
