The member forum is not moderated. We do not approve, edit or censor posts in any way. All members are expected to adhere to the content standards that are outlined in the
forum rules.
When we consider that a breach of the content standards has occurred, we may at our discretion take such action as we deem appropriate. This includes the removal of the offending content from the forum.
We have a clearly defined process for removing content from the forum.
- Content that breaches forum rules can be reported in two ways
- Use the report post button from within the forum application (the report post button is a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark in it). This is in the top right corner of the heading of every post.
- Email forum@nominet.org.uk with a link to the offending post
- The forum administrator will log a forum incident report
- Nominet's senior management team will receive details of the forum incident and will, using the definitions in the forum rules, decide if the content breaches the rules. Their decision will be to either:
- take no action, or
- remove the post
- The senior management team may also consider any further action, or defer this decision to a later date.
- Removal of posts: The whole post that breaches the forum rules will be deleted. We will not edit any element of a post to remove the inappropriate content.
- The post header will remain in the thread indicating that the member's post has been removed. A message will be shown stating that the post has been deleted as it breaches forum rules.
- If the offending post is the first post in a thread, the whole thread, including any replies, will be removed entirely from the forum.
- The administrator will search the forum to check if the offending post has been cross quoted in another thread.
- The member posting the offending message will be emailed to inform them that a message that they posted to the forum has been deleted because it breached forum rules.
- The member who reported the offending post will be emailed to inform them that their report has resulted in the post being removed.
- The forum incident report will be updated appropriately
- No action: The member reporting the post will be emailed to inform them that the post does not break forum rules and that no action has been taken.
Administration of threads and posts
Thread admin - Merging threads: If a new thread is created that quite clearly belongs within an existing thread then the threads will be merged
- Closing threads: We do not anticipate the need for threads to be permanently closed.
- Deleting threads: We do not anticipate the need for threads to be deleted
- Stickies: From time to time threads may be marked as sticky. Initially this will include a thread about forum usage and forum rules. Other administrative messages may be marked as sticky when required.
Post admin
- Moving posts: From time to time it may be necessary to move posts that are quite clearly in the wrong thread.
- We will not merge posts.
- We will only delete posts that break forum rules and we will follow the process detailed above.
- We will only edit posts that quote a post that has been deleted for breaching forum rules. In this instance only the quoted element of the post will be deleted.
