Continuing demand for .uk domain names pushes the .uk register past 7 million

Toots Driving School Registers the 7 Millionth .uk Address

28/08/2008

Nominet, the .uk domain name registry, today announces that there are now more than 7 million .uk domain names.  The domain name tootsdrivingschool.co.uk was registered by Toots Driving School, based in Ilford, London. This registration marks significant growth in the registry - an extra one million .uk domain names since July 2007.

The increase in .uk registrations is further evidence that British Internet users recognise the value of having a .co.uk address.  A recent survey of 2,352 Internet users, carried out by Opinion Matters, also shows that 72% of users are more likely to choose a .uk rather than .com address when looking for information online.

Phil Kingsland, director of marketing and communications at Nominet, comments: "We are pleased to see that the .uk registry is growing year on year. This, coupled with the high level of consumer trust in .uk, emphasises the value of businesses having a .co.uk domain name. It has become a key element of a UK-based company's brand identity."

Michelle Taylor, registrant of tootsdrivingschool.co.uk, explains: "We chose a .uk domain name to give the web site a local feel underlining our UK basis.  A .uk site is something our customers recognise and trust, which means they are more likely to visit our site and book driving lessons."
