BCS Acknowledges Nominet's Commitment to Supporting Women in IT.

The British Computer Society (BCS) has named Nominet, the .uk domain name registry, as a finalist in its 'Women in IT Award'. The award recognises organisations who are dedicated to enhancing opportunities for Women in IT.

The BCS IT Industry awards are the leading hallmark of success amongst practitioners in the IT Industry today. The awards recognise, promote and acclaim excellence, professionalism, innovation and the outstanding achievements to which individuals and groups contribute.

Lesley Cowley, CEO Nominet, comments on the finalist achievement:
"We are delighted that Nominet has been listed as a finalist by the BCS for the 'Women in IT' award. There is a shortage of women in the sector and it is vital that the industry does more to make it appealing to women. CEOs and boards of IT companies need to recognise the competitive advantages that you can achieve with a motivated and diverse workforce."

Anna Duckworth BCS Head of Corporate Marketing said: "Year-on-year the standard of entries increases, and this year is no exception with innovative projects which showcase excellence in IT. The next stage of the judging will be very difficult as our expert panel endeavours to select the outright winners for each award."

The BCS will announce award winners at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on the 6th December 2007.
