We have rewritten our terms and conditions for tag holders. The new Registrar Agreement replaces the existing Tag Holder Agreement from 01 March 2007. This re-draft of the contract has been used as an opportunity to replace the terms 'tag holder' and 'registration agent' with the single term 'registrar'.
The change in terminology serves a number of purposes:
- Consistency. Registrar will replace a number of different terms currently in use
- Standardisation. The term registrar is the internationally recognised term for an individual or business that has the ability to register domain names.
- Clarity. The previous term tag holder was very specific to the UK domain name industry and does not convey the range of services that a registrar could offer.
This change in terminology will be applied to all Nominet communications, from 01 March 2007. Changes will also be made to existing systems and services, including the Nominet web site. Some archived, historic, or contractual documents will not, however, be amended e.g. Registrant Terms and Conditions and DRS Decisions Archive.
As a result of this change in terminology our Member and Tag Holder Services department (MaTHS), will be changing in title also. The newly named Member and Registrar Services department (MaRS) will be launched on 01 March 2007, and will continue to offer customer support to all of our members and registrars. To contact our Member and Registrar Services team please call +44(0)1865 332233 or email support@nominet.org.uk.
