March 09 2010

We are changing the way that EPP usage limits are calculated. We currently limit the number of check and create commands for domain names that are already registered to 1,000. If this limit is exceeded then users are blocked. This applies to both the check and create commands.

On 6 April 2010 we will decouple the application of these limits to each command.
  • The limit for the create command will remain at 1,000 for domain names that already exist.
  • The limit for the check command for all lookups will be 5,000
We are implementing this change to allow registrars to build registration systems based entirely within EPP. This first stage implements separate limits for the check and create commands. The 5,000 limit on the check command is an initial limit to enable us to test the application of this process and to ensure that our systems are robust in preparation for increased future limits. We will be beta-testing higher check limits with a number of registrars to monitor system performance. If you have a requirement for a higher limits on the EPP check command and would like to assist us in beta-testing this function please contact our support team on or by phone on 01865 332233.

The changes to our acceptable use polices will come into effect on 6 April 2010.
