December 23 2009

On 1 February 2010 we will make some changes to the acceptable use polices for our registrar systems.

In order to protect the stability of our domain name registration systems we are updating the Acceptable Use Policies of the Automaton, EPP and the Web Domain Manager.  If a registrar uses these systems in such a way that it impacts performance, we will take steps to protect our systems.  While Nominet's systems are robust, we do have registrars sending millions of superfluous requests each day.  These requests can have a detrimental impact on systems performance.

An incident of this nature took place on 19 December which caused a 26 hour queue on the Automaton. This would have been less severe if these terms were in place.  The new AUPs will minimise the impact of this kind of occurrence will have in the future.

If you have any questions about our acceptable use policies and how they may affect you, please contact our Member and Registrar Support team on 01865 332233 or by email to .
