    We would like to advise you that our annual company day will take place on Wednesday 24 September 2014.The meeting gives all our staff the chance to meet together to review progress during the year and to discuss plans for the next 12 months.As, a result, Nominet’s UK offices there will be a reduced customer support service on this day. Our automated and online services will continue to operate as normal.

  • .cymru and .wales now open for the first phase of applications

    Businesses that have already registered their trade marks with ICANN’s Trademark Clearing House can now apply to secure their new .cymru and .wales domains. This Sunrise phase that starts today prioritises and secures trade mark rights, provided there are no duplications in these applications which would then need to go onto a tie-break and possible auction process.
  • Nominet takes another step to increase the security of the UK namespace

    Nominet is boosting the security of the UK namespace to help protect it from attack and exploitation. As part of this, we’ll be offering two-factor authentication access to our Online Services (OS) to registrars later on this year. Two-factor authentication is a two-step verification process and provides an extra layer of security to users accessing online systems.

  • Nominet to begin emailing .uk rights holders

    From 15 September, Nominet will begin emailing registrants with rights to a short .uk domain under the .uk 5-year reservation mechanism.  This step is part of a wider programme of communication and outreach committed to as part of the launch of .uk, and reflects our commitment to inform our existing registrants of the additional rights now connected to their domain/s.
  • The countdown to .cymru and .wales begins following delegation

    ICANN has now delegated both .cymru and .wales meaning that they are not yet available for registration but are now on the internet’s official database. From 1st September, businesses that have already registered their trademarks with ICANN’s Trademark Clearing House can begin the process of registering their new Welsh domains. The second registration phase, which gives Welsh businesses priority, starts in November with availability to the general public beginning on St David’s Day, March 1st 2015.
  • Change to Data Quality Policy

    The Data Quality Policy introduced earlier this year will be amended with effect from the 22nd September to remove the planned automatic cancellation of domain names that do not meet the necessary validation checks after 30 days. An initial Data Quality transition period, from 7th May to 22nd September, was implemented during which domain names on Accredited Channel Partner and Channel Partner tags were not automatically cancelled where validation could not be completed. 
  • Update on Nominet Registrar Services

    As the launch of .cymru and .wales gets closer, further details about Nominet Registrar Services Limited (NRS) are now available.The company is a wholly-owned Nominet subsidiary which will guarantee a distribution channel for .wales and .cymru as ICANN rules mean that the new domains may only be sold through ICANN Accredited Registrars.Registrars who wish to offer the Welsh domains but are not ICANN-accredited can choose to offer them by becoming a reseller of NRS or any ICANN Accredited Registrar who has signed up with Nominet to sell these gTLDs.
  • Deadline for .wales and .cymru trademark registrations approaches

    Businesses that hold a trademark and wish to appeal to customers in Wales, or want to be identified as having a Welsh heritage, need to register with the Trademark Clearinghouse before the 31st July to ensure the best possible chance of securing their .wales or .cymru domain names.
