Nominet has received a total of 5371 new cases for the Dispute Resolution Service (DRS) since its re-launch on 24 September 2001. (At an average of 81 new, valid cases per month over the last 12 months.)
 
1978 (37%) of the complaints were invalid* and were therefore deemed withdrawn.

The average response rate to valid disputes over the last 12 months was 48%.

105 cases are ongoing. The average number of cases ongoing at any one time in the last 12 months was 127.

1721 cases have completed the informal mediation stage. Of these, the parties have reached agreement to settle their dispute in 956 (56%) cases. The average settlement rate in the last 12 months was 61%.

During the last 12 months, the parties settled 91 cases before mediation began.

877 cases have been referred to an independent expert for decision. In 706 (80%) cases the complainant was successful. In 171 cases the complaint was dismissed; in 3 of the dismissed cases the expert also returned a finding of reverse domain name hijacking. The average complainant success rate in the last 12 months was 81%.

24 appeals have been lodged. The original decision was upheld by the appeal panel on 12 occasions and overturned in 12.

*'Invalid' refers to complaints that are not submitted in accordance with the DRS Procedures, being unsigned, sent only electronically or in some other way malformed. 'Invalid' does not refer to complaints that are unsuccessful.
