Following the consultation that we have undertaken on both scope and electronic voting over recent weeks, the feedback we have from a range of members suggests you would like us to be able to offer you additional services.

What are the benefits for you of increasing the range of services available from Nominet?

You would be able to offer your customers extended services, eg. UK ENUM

You would source these services from Nominet - a trusted, UK-based not-for-profit supplier

What happens if Nominet can't offer extended services?

Another non-membership based company will run the UK ENUM registry on a for-profit basis

Interacting with a different registry could lead to increased costs for you eg. set up fees, new interfaces or billing systems

Why do we need to resolve this now?

The UK ENUM Group plans to seek bids to run UK ENUM by the end of this year and we are prevented from bidding by our current scope

So, timeframes are short and if we do not address this issue quickly Nominet will miss out on the chance to bid

About ENUM

ENUM is an internationally approved method for connecting the telephone communications network to the Internet, utilising the domain name system.  ENUM is designed to enable you to call someone on different electronic communications devices and software applications by using a single identifier - a telephone number converted into a domain name.  Further information on ENUM is available.

Electronic communications and voting

We have had further feedback from numerous members requesting that we be allowed to use electronic voting and communications to enable simplified voting and increased participation.
