Why should I become a member of Nominet?
As a member of Nominet, you can contribute to the running of the company by exercising voting rights at our Annual General Meetings, electing non-executive directors to our Board and electing members to the Policy Advisory Body. You can also participate in online discussion groups to share views and ideas on how we should operate.
What are the benefits of becoming a member?
As a member of Nominet you can receive a discounted rate - £5 plus VAT per registration - for domain name registrations by becoming a registrar. As a member you do not automatically benefit from this discount and you must apply for a tag and set up a credit account with Nominet.
You can establish a link to your home page from the list of members on our web site.
You will also receive Nominet News, the newsletter produced by Nominet for its members, and a copy of our annual Report and Accounts.
How much does it cost to become a member?
There is a one-off joining fee of £400 plus VAT and an annual subscription charge of £100 plus VAT. The membership year runs from 1 August to 31 July.
Members who join after 1 February are entitled to a 50% reduction in the annual subscription charge element, for the year of joining only, to £50 (plus VAT).
Existing members are invoiced at the beginning of each membership year for their annual subscription at the renewal rate of £100 plus VAT.
Why do you include VAT on invoices for membership fees for all members based outside of the UK?
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) ruled that we should charge VAT on all our membership invoices. Membership has a dual purpose and provides a number of clearly defined benefits regardless of whether any domain names are actually purchased. These benefits include an element of control and say in the way that Nominet is run. Therefore membership fees cannot be exempt from VAT because the charges for membership are supplied where Nominet is established.

We can communicate with you on membership issues either by email or by post. You can use our online service to set your preferences for our communications.
How else can I make my views heard?
You can meet with other members and the Executive at our events, you can particpate in our policy process and you can join our discussion lists.
How can I get in touch with other Nominet members?
Nominet organises a programme of events specifically for members to meet with members of the Nominet management team, the Council of Management and the Policy Advisory Board. These events take place at venues around the country and provide an opportunity for members to ask questions and also network with each other.
