We are firmly committed to retaining Nominet's not-for-profit status and its core business as the .uk domain name registry, however, currently, Nominet's scope (defined by the 'Objects' clause in our Memorandum of Association) is unusually restrictive, and prevents the company from doing anything except its core business.  Whilst .uk domain names will remain at the heart of the business, Nominet is keen to develop and apply its expertise, experience and technology to new, wider opportunities, such as new Internet registry and consultancy services.

The paper sets out four possible options for Nominet's scope and we welcome your comments and feedback on those options. 

The consultation period ran from 02 June 2006 to 02 August 2006.
