Nominet is proposing to change the rules of registration for .ltd.uk and .plc.uk domain names to ensure that each company is entitled to a unique domain name while at the same time reducing the potential for abuse.

Under the current rules any characters which cannot be represented in the DNS (e.g. "&" or "@") are ignored. Because of this, it was possible for more than one company to be entitled to the same domain name.

The opportunity for feedback has now closed, with thanks to those who responded. We are considering responses and will publish a further update to explain how the changes will be implemented at a future date.
